All Weekend


Artland Temporium Brookland (Friday 6pm, Saturday 6pm and Sunday at 4pm)

Artland is a 12 week public art celebration offering free cultural events and promoting creative expression that are housed in temporiums in an effort to revitalize two vacant storefronts in the Monroe Street NE area of Brookland.

Like LUMEN8Anacostia, this project is funded by the Artplace America and the DC Office of Planning.  The Artland Brookland Temporium project is presented by Dance Place with guest curators from the DC creative community, Artland events will take place every weekend between June 1 and August 26, 2012 and are free to the public.

The following events take place this weekend with an emphasis on Muslim identity in America, human rights in Islamic countries and inter-faith cooperation:

  • Friday June 29 at 6pm: Opening Reception with painter Nadia Janjua
  • Saturday June 30 6pm: Film Screening The Vigil with Q&A with director Arya Surowidjojo
  • Sunday July 1 4pm: Film Screening Education Under Fire with Q&A with human rights activist Sahar Sattarzadeh

The Brentwood Arts Exchange at the Gateway Art Center (4pm to 7pm)

13-18 year olds from around the Washington, DC metropolitan area were selected for the Express Yourself teen juried show.  Joey P. Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) (5pm to 7pm)

CHAW presents recent work by Jane Ann Wynn, an artist spanning who works in a broad spectrum of media, notably assemblage, jewelry, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, painting, and photography.  Unlike most exhibitions where artists make an appearance during the opening and get back to their studios, Wynn will be teaching a workshop on assemblage on Saturday July 21 at CHAW from 10am to 4pm.  For more information including information on how to register for the assemblage workshop, click here.  CHAW is located at 545 Seventh Street SE
