Two incredible South Carolina chefs are coming together for a can’t-miss evening of Southern food and rare whiskey at Jack Rose Dining Saloon, all to support a great cause. James Beard Award-winning Chef Sean Brock, known for his renowned establishments Husk Charleston and Husk Nashville, McCrady’s and Minero, is teaming up with Jack Rose’s Chef Russell P. Jones to raise money for local charity Jeeps for Joy during “A Night of Southern Hospitality” on Wednesday, April 29th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
For just $125, food lovers and bourbon fanatics can enjoy an entire evening of creative Southern-inspired fare, vintage Stitzel-Weller bourbon, and of course, the company of culinary and whiskey greats, all to benefit underprivileged children through Jeeps For Joy.
Chefs Brock and Jones will each cook up their own Southern favorites, passed throughout the dining saloon. Chef Brock’s specialties include Carolina Rice Griddle Cakes (c. 1875) with smoked trout dip & pickled onions, Cheerwine Glazed Pig Ears with Soft Rolls, Cucumber & Smoked Duke’s, and Husk’s famous Shrimp & Grits. Chef Jones will serve Maryland Crab Cakes with chow chow puree, Fried Chesapeake Oysters with country gravy & benne, and Pork Head Cheese Ravioli. And both chefs will collaborate on a Country Ham & Biscuit station: Chef Brock will carve up his famous 2-year Tennessee Country Ham, to serve alongside Chef Jones’ fresh-baked buttermilk biscuits with pimento cheese and onion marmalade.
The co-founder of Jeeps For Joy generously donated a collection of rare Stitzel-Weller whiskeys for guests to taste. Distilled at Pappy Van Winkle’s famed Stitzel-Weller, one of America’s most iconic distilleries, every guest can enjoy one tasting flight of four vintage bottlings (1oz pours of each) including Old Weller Original 7yr, Weller Special Reserve 7yr, W.L. Weller 12yr and Old Fitzgerald’s 1849 8yr. Guests can also enjoy an open bar of select wine, draft beer and spirits.
And the reason for this evening of fine food, drink and revelry: a portion of proceeds will be donated to Jeeps For Joy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in need, within the Mid-Atlantic region. They do this through fundraising, charitable events and outreach within the off-roading community. Since its launch in 2001, Jeeps For Joy has donated close to 10,000 toys and items to both the Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children and Children’s Choice Foster Care. More information can be found at www.jeepsforjoy.org.
The evening will also raise money for the charity through a silent auction, with incredible prizes up for bidding such as private dinners, whiskey tastings and the ultimate grand prize: a weekend trip for two to Bardstown, KY featuring a personal tour of Willett Distillery by Master Distiller Drew Kulsveen, Jack Rose owner Bill Thomas, Chef Sean Brock and Bourbon GM Jared Hyman, followed by a private dinner for the group at Bardstown’s Harrison-Smith House prepared by Chef Brock and HSH Chef Newman Miller.
Chef Sean Brock, who won the James Beard Award for “Best Chef Southeast” in 2010, and was a finalist for “Outstanding Chef” in 2013 and 2014, will also be signing copies of his New York Times best-selling cookbook “Heritage” for attendees.
