January 6-8, Red Bull and Live Nation Present Live Performances Of The Flying Steps Visualizing Johann Sebastian Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier
For the first time ever, Red Bull Flying Bach will bring its clash of cultures to Washington D.C. for three full days of performances during their USA Tour. After debuting to rave reviews in San Francisco in May at the iconic Masonic Theatre, the performance’s unique fusion of classical music and professional break dancing garnered national recognition and has captured the attention of fans from across the country.
Red Bull Flying Bach is a one-of-a-kind, innovative adaptation of Johannes Sebastian Bach’s “The Well-Tempered Clavier,” which breaks down the barriers between high society and urban culture by fusing classical music and break dancing in a one-of-a-kind performance. Vartan Bassil, founder of the world famous b-boy crew Flying Steps, originated the idea of combining these two seemingly disparate elements, and partnered with conductor Christoph Hagel to create the resulting Red Bull Flying Bach.
The narrative follows six dancers and one teacher, rehearsing for their big day. Arguments, fights, disappointments and delights ensue – just like the highs and lows of the notes, the moods and steps of the dancers, which change constantly – as their teacher pushes the boundaries of the dancers.
“The Red Bull Flying Bach tour is an opportunity for The Flying Steps to demonstrate that our members are not just break dancers – we are artists,” said Vartan Bassil, Artistic Director, Red Bull Flying Bach. “The product of combining urban culture with classical influences is an incredible type of street art that we are excited to share with Washington D.C. in particular with its history of breakdancing and classical music performance.”
Red Bull Flying Bach has also partnered with street/multidisciplinary artist Joe Iurato. Iurato has created his own signature, wooden cutout pieces inspired by the breakdancers and modern dancers currently involved in the Red Bull Flying Bach tour.
These unique pieces have been strategically installed in various DC locations to spread awareness of the 4 upcoming performances of the Red Bull Flying Bach tour at the Warner Theater (January 6th – 8th). A veteran breakdancer himself, Iurato’s work goes hand-in-hand with the Red Bull Flying Bach tour. Look out for any miniatures near you!
