This neighborhood festival celebrates the arts and artisans of DC while highlighting the great businesses of 17th Street, NW.
The Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets presents the 7th Annual 17th Street Festival, an event celebrating the shops, restaurants, and services of 17th Street, which will take place on Saturday, August 27, 2016 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. The street festival will include artists, artisans, for profit vendors, politicians, kids activities, and a pet area rain or shine.
“We are trying some new things this year,” said Promotion Committee Chair Sue Taylor. “We will have moving entertainment, and are including some parades down the street, as well as our favorite artists and vendors.”
The 17th Street Festival will include entertainment all day, including a marching band to open the festival, mariachi band to enliven the day, a Chinese dragon dancer to add some mystery, and a New Orleans jazz band to bring some charm. New this year, we will have three parades by participants starting at 17th and R Street to walk down the festival site. First is the baby parade for parents with strollers (ages 0-2). Next, we will have the wagon brigade where children ages 3-12 can decorate their wagon and pull it down the street with their favorite stuffed animal. Finally, we will have a dog parade to add to the mix of the menagerie; pet owners are encourage to dress their pets like lions, cats, squirrels, etc.
The festival will include more than 50 artists displaying everything from fine art to jewelry, ceramics to crafts, and every creative item in between. Other vendors will include area nonprofit organizations, politicians, and local entrepreneurs. The Kids Zone is has been moved to 17th Street to be part of the street fair with a moon bounce, ball crawl, and face painting.
The festival is free, but this year, we are trying a discounted wrist band to promote the restaurants. For $10, you get a pass to try discounted drinks, appetizers, and entrees all day at many of the restaurants along 17th Street. Come for the art and stay for the food!
The 17th Street Festival is organized by Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets, with major support from DSLBD, Elxel, Colonial Parking, Attach Housing, DCJCC, Dupont Circle Citizen s Association, ANC2B, Stonewall Kickball, TD Bank, PNC Bank, Friends of Stead Park, and Redwood Real Estate.
